Physical activity supported by mobile technology program (PAT-Back) for older adults with back pain at primary care: a feasibility study protocol

Aim: Low back pain (LBP) is disabling in older adults. Although physical activity interventions positively affect LBP, adults are underrepresented the literature. We aim to investigate feasibility of conducting a study evaluate primary care program exercise therapy and education, supported by mobile technology, for with chronic LBP (compared best practice advice). Methods: In this parallel, two-arm randomized pilot trial, we will recruit aged 60 years LBP. The experimental group (Physical Activity low-cost technology Back pain-PAT-Back) consist an 8-week based on exercises, graded activities, in-home activity. Text messages be sent promote adherence home exercises. control receive evidence-based educational booklet given during one individual consultation. Outcomes include recruitment rate, retention rates, level understanding intervention content, perception utility compliance accelerometer sub-sample patients, adverse events. Discussion: results form basis large controlled trial. This innovative approach managing setting adults, if proven effective, can bring important advance knowledge management population.
